TITLE IEEE INTRODUCTION AND IEEE PROVIDED OPPORTUNUTIES TO STUDENT MEMBERS
ABSTRACT The generation and transmission of electrical energy have not been given a high priority for almost two decades in the United States due to various reasons. However, the country has started to experience shortage for electrical energy, especially in states like California. In this paper, some of the methods used to relieve the existing power network are reviewed and presented. One of these methods is to employ fast electronic switching devices to manage the power flow smoothly so that the existing lines will handle the power transmission without exceeding their power capacities. For the shortage of electrical energy production, on the other hand, rather than using large-scale power stations, small-scale power generating units, especially the stationary fuel cells will become the major player during the earlier part of the twenty-first century

TITLE ALTERNATIVE ENERGY RESOURCES AND A MINOR PROGRAM FOR FUEL CELL TECHNOLOGY
ABSTRACT For minimizing the shortage of electrical energy production, on the other hand, rather than using conventional, large-sclae, fossil fuel or nuclear power stations, small-scale power generating units using renewable energy resources such as wind energy, solar energy, hydro energy and hydrogen energy employed in the stationary fuel cells are expected to become the major players during the earlier part of the twenty-first century

In order to educate public, a major task is expected from educational institutions at any level. Kettering University is one of the pioneers volunteering to perform this major task by offering a minor in the field of Fuel Cell. In this talk some of the aspects af this minor program will be presented.
SPEAKER Prof. Huseyin R. Hiziroglui, Senior Member, IEEE
